"It's not fair...."

So Scandal just showed an outright rape scene.
So many folks are upset about it being a trigger.
I'm upset that so many of us have experienced sexual abuse of any kind.
How many were affected during childhood?
How many were assaulted as adults?
Is there a way to know which is more damaging - something so terrible occuring during those innocent formative years versus times in our lives when were just walking into who we had become or just finding out who we wanted to be?
Which is more damaging?
23 years later and the image of someone being sexually assaulted can still drag me back to that one time...
I hate that that happened to me.
I hate that it happens to anyone.
I hate that so much of it is hurt people hurting other people; so much of it is part of a cycle that didn't originate with our offenders and won't end with us as victims.
That scene made me very, very sad.
